ETHEKWINI NEWSFLASH PUBLIC NOTICE 8 AUGUST 2026 PLANNED WATER SUPPLY REDUCTION ON THE SOUTHERN AQUEDUCT PIPELINE Residents and businesses are advised of a planned reduction in bulk water supply on the Southern Aqueduct pipeline from Wednesday, 12 August at 8 am to Friday, 14 August at 8 am. The City’s Water Operations Department will undertake a planned shutdown of the existing 1 200mm pre-stressed concrete pipeline (PCP) on the Southern Aqueduct to facilitate sectional repair work by contractors in preparation for the new Southern Aqueduct Pipeline Upgrade Project. During this period, the Southern Aqueduct will experience a reduction in bulk water supply. However, the existing 1 200mm steel pipeline will remain operational and will continue supplying water to the western, central and southern regions. The sectional repair work would be taking place at the intersection of Perth Road and Hi Wycombe Road in Westville. The City will closely monitor reservoir storage levels throughout the shutdown. Depending on water demand and reservoir levels, reservoir outlets may be temporarily closed to preserve available storage and reduce recovery times once the bulk supply is restored.
