Motivated Dugong: PROVINCIAL SCHOOL SEARCH OPERATION On Tuesday, 4 August 2026, the South African Police Service (SAPS), under the Orange Farms Policing Precinct, conducted a School Search and Seizure Operation aimed at ensuring the safety and security of learners and educators. The operation was supported by the Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mr Lebogang Maile; the Sedibeng District Social Crime Prevention Coordinators; the Gauteng Provincial Traffic Police; Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens; Community in Blue; CPF Community Patrollers; and private security companies. The operation forms part of ongoing efforts to combat the possession of dangerous weapons, substance abuse, gangsterism, and other criminal activities within schools. During the operation, two suspects were arrested after they were found in possession of crystal methamphetamine. Police also confiscated various prohibited items, including dagga, sharp instruments, scissors, cigarettes, table forks, and matches. The Orange Farms Station Commander, Brigadier Mashole Manamela, commended all law enforcement agencies and stakeholders involved for the successful confiscation of the contraband. The Brigadier further appealed to members of the community to report any suspicious or criminal activities taking place in and around schools to the police, emphasising that community cooperation is essential in creating safe learning environments.
