Copper Theft Arrests – Witbank SAPS arrested six foreign nationals aged 21 to 45 during an intelligence-driven operation in Tasbet Park, Witbank, on Monday, 7 September 2026. Police intercepted a suspicious Opel Corsa carrying the six men and allegedly found a firearm, three rounds of ammunition and a large amount of cash in their possession. A copper theft case linked to a mine is under investigation, with police probing whether the suspects may be connected to other copper theft incidents at surrounding mines, some involving firearms to intimidate security guards. SAPS is working with Home Affairs to verify the suspects’ immigration status. They were due to appear in the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court on 8 September, facing charges including illegal immigration and copper theft, with further charges possible. Mpumalanga SAPS Commissioner Lt-Gen Apaphia Modise praised the arrests and called for intensified operations against copper theft and tighter inspections of scrapyards to prevent stolen metals from entering the legitimate market.

CASE UPDATE 🚨 | DRIVER LOCATED A huge thank you to everyone who shared our original post, sent tips, and helped us identify the driver involved in the Ackerville hit-and-run incident. Your support made a real difference. Following information received from members of the community, Emalahleni News 24/7 was able to locate the individual believed to have been driving the white Volkswagen Polo involved in the incident. After confirming his identity with the complainant, we assisted the complainant in locating and meeting the individual in order to address the matter directly. During the engagement, the driver undertook to have the damage repaired through his insurance. At this stage, we have connected both parties and will remain in contact with the complainant to monitor progress and ensure that this commitment is honoured. It is also important to note that during the search and before the matter was actually resolved on the ground, the driver made public comments suggesting that the issue had already been resolved peacefully. This was not the case at the time of those remarks. This case is a reminder that community cooperation can lead to positive outcomes without unnecessary conflict. We also wish to clarify that we only remove or close posts once the complainant confirms that the matter has genuinely been resolved. Until then, we continue to facilitate communication and provide updates where necessary. Thank you once again to everyone who assisted.
