Cape Flats Violence: Weekend Summary | 4–6 September: A deadly weekend of violence was recorded across the Cape Flats, with numerous shooting incidents and fatalities. At least 19 people were shot over the weekend, with at least 14 killed. Lavender Hill recorded at least five shooting victims, several of whom died. Athole recorded three separate shooting incidents, including two fatalities. Multiple killings were reported in Delft, Belhar, Mfuleni, Hanover Park, Retreat, Philippi, Valhalla Park and Heideveld. Bodies were also discovered in Kleinvlei. Fatal shootings were additionally reported near the N2 Airport turnoff. Incidents in Woodstock, Atlantis and Scottsdene/Kraaifontein were included in the wider report but are not situated on the Cape Flats. The scale of the violence highlights the continuing crisis of gun crime and gang-related violence across vulnerable communities in Cape Town.
